10 Mobile Apps All College Students Should Have
Nowadays, life as a college student revolves heavily around technology. Specifically, it revolves around our cell phones. We use our cell phones for just about everything: communication, music, planning, taking notes, and to manage our finances. Here are 10 mobile apps every college student should have.
Spotify
Spotify is a convenient platform to stream music. In fact, it’s my personal favorite! It’s so easy to create playlists of your favorite songs. Also, every week, Spotify will make you a personal playlist called “Discover Weekly”, where they compile songs they think you will like based on the songs you listen to. In short, it’s a great way to listen to and find music. Plus, they have a great student discount!
Spotify is my favorite, but you can check out other music platforms, like Apple Music or Pandora Radio.
Productive
Do you want to build a new habit? Productive is an app that will help you with that. You can set how often you want to be reminded to do something, and it will remind you. For example, if you want to water your plants twice a week, Productive will remind you twice a week to do so.
Venmo
As college students, we often need to transfer money to each other. Venmo is a simple way to transfer and request money. This is convenient when you can’t split bills at restaurants or when you owe someone money.
Your bank’s app
Having your bank’s app on your phone will make it much easier for you to manage your finances. You can see exactly how much money is going in and coming out of your account, which can help you adjust your spending habits. Depending on which bank you use, you might even be able to deposit checks and transfer money directly from the app.
BeFocused
Have you ever heard of the Pomodoro Technique? It states that the best way to stay focused is to work for 25 minutes straight, take a 5-minute break, and then start the cycle again. Once you reach the third cycle, take a 15-minute break. This will help you stay focused.
Todoist
Todoist a simple to do list. It’s perfect to quickly jot down any important things you might forget. Its clean, intuitive design makes it a favorite among fellow college students.
Evernote
Evernote is a great platform to organize your notes and to access them on any of your devices. You can also share notebooks with others and collaborate, so you and others can edit notebooks at the same time.
Calendar
Even if you use a paper planner, calendar apps (even the one that comes with your phone) is very useful. You can keep all your important dates in one place, and you can have it remind you when one is coming up. For example, you can have it remind you when you have an appointment or a test.
Skype
Skype is an especially important app if you are away from your family or if you’re in a long-distance relationship. It’s a great way to send messages or to video chat with your loved ones. It’s Internet-based, not cellular data based like texting and calling, so you can use this internationally. If you have an iOS device, you could also use FaceTime and iMessage.
GroupMe
In college, you will have to do many group projects. Of course, group projects require lots of communication that can’t always be done in person, which is why group chats are so helpful for those doing a group project. GroupMe is an app that’ll help you easily create group chats and message multiple people at once.
You might even use GroupMe for things that aren’t group projects. For example, if you are involved in the leadership of a student organization, you might use a group chat to communicate with fellow leaders about the organization.
Netflix
Being a college student means you have hard, but it also involves taking breaks and having fun. One of the best ways to unwind after a tough week is to watch your favorite TV show or movie (especially if you’ve been so busy that you haven’t been able to catch up on the latest episodes your favorite show!). You can use apps like Netflix, Hulu, or your favorite TV network’s app to do this.
These apps are some of my favorites because they make my life as a college student much easier. I hope you find them as useful as I do!
